Quilt Club in memory of Iva ( Susie ) Ellis

Quilt club was held last night in memory of my great grandmother's birthday.
She taught me the love of fabric and sewing. She would be 108. The picture in
the background is my great grandfather Rev. Wilmer Ellis. He was 3 years older
than her.

Quilt club discussed new projects to begin soon.
More on that later...

I love horses!
Don't ever let me go to the Kentucky Derby.

I would probably loose everything by betting on
something I "feel" would be a good choice. : )

Best of Show!

Last summer Quilt Club began talking about entering a quilt block for this years county fair fundraiser. The theme was "All Things Kentucky".
A few of the ladies did and a few of us didn't meet the deadline : ( me included. This one appears to have been a favorite with the judges. Way to go Amy!

And the UK Football and Basketball blocks were signed by the coaches. Great idea Billye!
I haven't heard what the silent auction total was but I think Good!

Helpful Hints For Winter

Keep your headlights clear with car wax! Just wipe ordinary car
wax on your headlights. It contains special water repellents that will
prevent that messy mixture from accumulating on your lights - lasts 6
weeks.
Squeak-proof your wipers with rubbing alcohol! Wipe the wipers
with a cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol or ammonia. This one trick
can make badly streaking & squeaking wipers change to near perfect
silence & clarity.
Ice-proof your windows with vinegar! Frost on it's way? Just
fill a spray bottle with three parts vinegar to one part water & spritz
it on all your windows at night. In the morning, they'll be clear of icy
mess. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which raises the melting point of
water---preventing water from freezing!
Prevent car doors from freezing shut with cooking spray! Spritz
cooking oil on the rubber seals around car doors & rub it in with a
paper towel. The cooking spray prevents water from melting into the
rubber
Fog-proof your windshield with shaving cream! Spray some shaving
cream on the inside of your windshield & wipe if off with paper towels.
Shaving cream has many of the same ingredients found in commercial
defoggers.
De-ice your lock in seconds with hand sanitizer! Just put some
hand sanitizer gel on the key & the lock & the problems solved!

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,

BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.

I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,

I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKON

THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,

BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION

WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,

THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.

SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,

AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.

GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,

PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,

ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.

I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,

WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.

BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....

HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,

MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.

MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.

MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.

MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,

MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

Deadline is near.

Hey locals, Billye has been busy.
Remember "All things Kentucky"
blocks are due this Friday.

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Last Thursday was ladies night out with a surprise baby shower and we celebrated some
birthdays too.
We went to a new Japenese restaurant in Somerset Ky.
(Yamatos Steakhouse Of Japan)
It was wonderful!

This one is located in the Forkland Community on Hwy. 37 Boyle County Ky.
I believe this is an Ellis family farm.
Also located near the famous Penn's Store.
This area had major flood damage in May this year.

Monday, September 27, 2010

With all the rush of our county festival, a scout trip to the aviation museum in Lexington Ky (while the World Equestrian Games were starting), family visiting, practicing for the church play and more we managed a mini family birthday party for child #3. It was his 12th.
He is fun as you can tell. He spent some early birthday money from cousin NY on the helmet.
He spends wisely. It was a mark down $50/$22. He had been watching it since last Christmas season. : )
Our little quilt club did okay in the ribbon category : )
How is the blocks for the fair going?
Friday is the deadline.
See you Thursday night.

Friday, September 17, 2010

Happy Birthday to me!

Today is my birthday and I received a birthday wish from someone I miss.
It made my day. : )

Loved these at the quilt show

I have fabrics ready and was thinking of a jar quilt but not sure
of the size I want. I was thinking of a small wall hanging but really like the table runner.
I love the border of this wall hanging. I love the embroider on the table runner.
What to do, what to do? and when will I find the time to do .... : )

Christmas Quilt

I loved the colors and the quilting on  this Christmas quilt I saw at a show this weekend. I only got a close up of it for some reason.
My cousin Sandi and 2 of her daughters came for a weekend visit. We started Saturday with a stop at Quilt King (or King's) in Liberty to add to our fabric stash (GREAT prices you can't beat!) We are both working on the Africian quilt with animal prints. Next stop was at Sunny Valley (it will always be Nolt's to me) on South Fork, a nice drive thru the Mennonite community. Next we got into Somerset for KFC and went to Trinity Springs Park for a picnic. We used our picnic quilts made in the first Quilt Club project.(May/June '10) I forgot to take a picture! : (
Next stop was the Quilt Show of the Little Mountains in Monticello. Next stop was Linda's Quilt Shop. We got more fabric. Sandi added to her civil war prints. I picked up a sock monkey print for a baby quilt I need to have completed asap! I also found a hiking boot print. My hiking and geocaching "name" is to go boots : ).
Last stop for the day ( and we were about shopped out) was Paul's Discount back in Somerset. They have a WONDERFUL assortment of fabric at great prices. I picked up some halloween prints and Sandi almost had to fight for Batiks. : )
We finally made it home to collapse and plan our next outing next weekend. We have a long list of projects to finish and new ones to start but a girl has to plan a prepare for the winter 'cause you might get stuck home and ........I'm just saying..........
I also liked this quilt at the show...

I guess the rest of us are behind : )

Quilt Club tonight at 6pm.

all you locals........see you there!
I haven't gotten my pieces cut, you?

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Look what K made!

Kaye is behind there somewhere. Her holiday quilt has been made and
some presents have been wrapped. All in August. Awesome? Aggravating?
: ) maybe Inspiring?

Don't toss those little scraps!!!!!!!!!!

Terri Bennett, a experienced : ) quilter stopped by Quilt Club
last week to share her mini quilts with us. (approx.5x7 size)
How cute are these?
There is no reason you couldn't complete every family member a
special quilt this year...
just saying...
DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR SCRAPS!!!!

Sunday, August 22, 2010

I will attempt a version of this for a quilt block contest...

in honor of Barbaro

This is for a local quilt block contest for a county fair fundraiser.

Somewhere on a rEally back road on the way to Forkland Ky

Maxey Valley area?
locals can you tell me where I was?
: )

Sunday, August 15, 2010

I'm just saying...

Sewing is cheaper than a psychiatrist !
Today I worked on my sewing room. Nothing fancy but ROOM...I have a cutting table now,
an ironing area, a display wall started, tv, phone and laptop....sewing machine, embroidery machine, serger and I still have a lot to do.

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Again I say...

Asking a quilter to mend (hem) is like asking Picasso to paint your garage.
However this time was my 26 year old son and he ask so nice : P.
Job is done along with some unique embroidered luggage tags : ). He leaves
tomorrow morning for a new adventure. And as he says sometimes "Can't tell
you, have to kill you".

new hobby...

sewing machine repair-rrrrrrrrr
yesterday I acquired a cute little green machine. not the cleaning kind : ) that is so not me.
it is a sewing machine. a Singer 285k. needs some work so I thought. I would attempt to work on
it after watching a video on a new blog I found. Brian helped me get started even tho he didn't
know. after taking the bottom off like Brian said to do I was still a bit lost. I decided to email
him for advice but saw my first problem! no belt! after I find a belt I will go to the next step even
tho Brians blog says it is one of the worst Singer machines made. : P my luck. BUT I only gave
$3 for it and it can just look "cute" in my sewing room with the dozen or so in my collection.
(hubby says the belt will cost $20 : P )
oh and here is Brian's blog...on a bad seed

http://www.briansews.com/2010/06/bad-seed.html

and a picture of the little green Singer 285k
(not to be confused with the 185)

And here is the SECRET!

As promised....

Happy to find this old quilt today after passing it up yesterday.
$5! all hand stitched and does have holes but it has been loved and
I wonder about it's "story" : )

127 Yard Sale

Yesterday I met a friend from out of state here helping her mom set up in the 127 yard sale.
The sale runs for abut 400 miles of Hwy 127 each year. We had a good visit along with our daughters
running around looking for a good buy. I saw NEW IN BOX  jelly jars at a great price turned for like 30
seconds and back around to pick them up and some lady (Barbara R) had them clutched in her
arms! She beat me to the buy. The only other thing I saw there was a olllllllllld quilt. I passed on it
but am leaving soon and hope to find it is still there. If I find it I will post a picture tonight. Keep your
fingers crossed.

quilts...

I took this picture yesterday on the way to Perryville from Danville (Hwy 150? I think)
and this one on the road to Perryville Battlefield.

I missed another one on the same road but plan to go back soon.
